The Department of Biology, instituted in 1984 from the fusion of the Botanical Institute and Garden and the Institute of Zoology and Comparative Anatomy, has established itself as one of the largest departments of the University. The Department's facilities are distributed between Mount Valerio environs and the S. Giovanni area (Pavilion Q). The department manages the University's Botanical Garden actually in reorganisation.
It is the seat of a PhD (Doctorate of research) and of a school of post-graduate specialisation.
