The Andalusian Earth Sciences Institute (IACT) is a research center that belongs to the Spanish Research Council (CSIC) and the Univeristy of Granada (UGR). The Institute has more than 130 persons that conduct their research in pursuit of scientific excellence in Earth Sciences, in contributing to the development of cutting-edge tecnology, and in the transfer of knowledge to society. Research is conducted with a multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary approach, with a scientiic portofolio that has the following main tiers: the analysis of lithospheric processes that configure orogens and basins; geological, geophysical, geochemical and biogeochemical processes in marine environments; structure, composition and properties of minerals and rocks; and crystallographic problems ranging from macromolecular crystallography to pattern formation.
