As a research group at the University of Ghent, the goal of the Centre for Sustainable Development (CDO) is to contribute -from a scientific point of view- in translating the concept of sustainable development into practice.
An important facet of working on sustainable development at the Centre is the multi-disciplinary approach which can be noticed in all its projects. Multi-disciplinarity means using knowledge and work methods of different scientific disciplines. As such, it is not unexpected that has a divers research staff: social scientists and engineers work together. In most CDO projects the five main dimensions of sustainable development are present: the economic, social, physical-ecological, institutional and ethical aspects are addressed.
