organisation profile

EcoLab – Laboratoire d’écologie fonctionnelle is a joined research unit (UMR 5245) from the CNRS, the University Paul Sabatier of Toulouse III and the National Polytechnique Institute of Toulouse. It has been created from the 1st January 2007. EcoLab originates from three previous laboratories: Laboratoire Dynamique de la Biodiversité (LaDyBio ; UMR 5172), Laboratoire d’Ecologie des Hydrosystèmes (LEH ; UMR 5177) and the research team Agronomy–Environment–Ecotoxicology (EA 3715). EcoLab’s objective is the combined study of communities and ecosystems together with their interrelations. The role of biodiversity in ecosystem functions, the influence of disturbances regime on biodiversity, the dynamics and effects of pollutants (from the organism to the ecosystem), the modelling of ecosystem structure and functioning, and the bioremediation and restoration of natural environments are major research themes common to the whole laboratory. Such themes typically belong to the sciences of natural environments, at the interface of life sciences and universe sciences. EcoLab is linked to the CNRS Department "Environment & Sustainable Development" and the Scientific Departements 3 and 10 of the Research and Education Ministry.
