The Federal Waterways Engineering and Research Institute (BAW) is a higher federal authority within the area of responsibility of the Federal Ministry of Transport, Building and Urban Development (BMVBS). The headquarters of the BAW are in Karlsruhe. Other offices are located in Hamburg and Ilmenau.
(BAW), we are engaged in the maintenance and
development of the waterways as a safe, economic and environmentally-friendly mode of transport.
BAW supports and advises the Federal Ministry of Transport, Building and Urban Development (BMVBS) and the Federal Waterways and Shipping Administration (WSV) with regard to development and new construction as well as operation and maintenance of federal waterways in the technical fields of waterways engineering and information technology.
