The Environmental and Marine Chemistry Group operates within the Section III (Inorganic and Environmental Chemistry) of the Department of Chemistry of the University of Athens. The group is involved in several oceanographic research projects as well as in projects which deal with environmental management. These projects are funded either by the Commission of the European Communities or by the Greek government. The group also participates in intercalibration exercises on pollutants in marine samples. It also deals with the training of the postgraduate and undergraduate students of the department in Environmental Chemistry and Chemical Oceanography.
