organisation profile

Bord Iascaigh Mhara (Irish Sea Fisheries Board) is a semi-state body and is one of two state sponsored organisations in Ireland involved in national research and development on fish capture techniques. BIM does not participate in pure research as such and confines its activities to development projects designed to improve the catching efficiency and profitability of the Irish sea fishing industry within the overall constraints imposed by the EC Common Fisheries Policy.

The five principal divisions within BIM are:

  • Marine Services Division Aquaculture
  • Planning Division
  • Fleet Development Division
  • Market Development Division
  • Secretariat Division

BIM participates in F.A.R. and EC Exploratory Fishing Voyages. BIM has a 16 m steel training vessel and also current meters and temperature/salinity bridges.
