Since January 2017, the UMS PatriNat (formerly the MNHN's Natural Heritage Department), based at several MNHN sites, has been providing scientific and technical expertise on French biodiversity and geodiversity for the benefit of nature awareness and environmental conservation policies for continental and marine environments. Activities relating to Marine Science and Technology are carried out by several UMR teams, in particular the 'Marine Environment Directives' team. These activities consist of developing protocols and tools for monitoring biodiversity in continental and marine environments and providing robust indicators to meet the challenges of biodiversity conservation. The staff working on STM themes are located on the Paris site and, more marginally, those of Dinard and Arcachon.
