The Center IFREMER of Brest is the most important of the sites IFREMER. It gathers approximately 1000 people around all the topics of oceanology:
- living resources (aquiculture and halieutics)
- oceanic research (geosciences, physical oceanography, space oceanography, major environment)
- marine engineering and technology
- coastal environment. The Center accomodates moreover different laboratories of other research centers (like IRD, Polar Institute IPEV and AFSSA) which carry out, in collaboration with IFREMER, research programmes in oceanology.
