organisation profile

The Department for Operational Modelling of BSH (Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency) runs an operational model system to predict currents, water levels and dispersion processes in the North Sea and Baltic Sea. The model is based on forecasts of wind and air pressure supplied by the Deutscher Wetterdienst (DWD, German Weather Service) in Offenbach and tide predictions. Wind and air pressure as well as the model results (current and water levels) are stored as data records with a temporal resolution of 15 minutes. Latest data are held on hard disk, older simulation results - from October 1990 onwards - can be retrieved from an automatic cartridge system.
