The Marine Technology Unit (UTM) is part of the Natural Resources Area within the Scientific Research Council (CSIC), with the mission to install, maintain and develop valuable technologies to support the marine and polar national research programs.

The UTM provides the basic instrument to perform international standards services and marine technology with the aim to achieve high quality science by the Spanish marine scientist community.

The UTM is responsible for managing different Spanish Research Vessels and the maintenance of scientific equipment and provides the technical personnel for conducting oceanographic cruises. The UTM is also responsible for managing the Spanish Antarctic Station Juan Carlos I
