UMR 7159, Laboratoire d'Océanographie et du Climat: Expérimentations et Approches Numériques (LOCEAN) is a joint research unit in partnership with Sorbonne University (SU), the main supervisor, the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS), the Institut de Recherche pour le Développement (IRD) and the Muséum National d'Histoire Naturelle (MNHN).
LOCEAN's scientific project focuses on the study of the physical and biogeochemical processes that control ocean and climate dynamics and variability over a wide range of time and space scales for a better understanding of the climate system and its present, past and future evolution. The scientific themes developed are: ocean dynamics and coupling with the atmosphere and sea ice, biogeochemical cycles and marine ecosystems, climate variability and the environmental and social-economic impacts of climate change.
